Hello Keith, Ernest Abram Garner was certainly one of the boys. He was place on the farm of Thomas Bros, Rocky River, Huddleston - near Crystal Brook. He served (and survived) WW1 in France becoming a Corporal and was 'mentioned in despatches'. He married in England in Dec 1918. He also enlisted in WW2 and at that time he was living with his wife back at Crystal Brook.
Regards, Peter

Hi Keith and Jennifer Great to hear from you. If you contact State Records here in Adelaide www.archives.sa.gov.au they will be able to send you a copy of Earnest's South Australian Immigration Department file. The reference number is series GRG7/3, box 1, file 48. These are some extra details that I've drawn from the database www.safarmapprentices.net/downloads/misc/state_records_grg7_3.xlsHome address prior to emigration: 18 Grange Road, West Molesley, Surrey Age as at 29/4/1913: 17 & 1/2 Employment prior to emigraiton: Bookbinder Earnest was a member of the Beltana Boy Scout troop - see www.safarmapprentices.net/proponents/scouts.htm The SA Scouts published a book about the Beltana Boy Scouts last year and I'm sure the authors Tony Aldous and Richard Mansfield would love to hear from you. Would you mind contacting me at elspeth_g@hotmail.com and we can discuss further. Kind regards Elspeth

Ern Garner worked at the Thomas family farm near Huddleston. He gets a brief mention in the Georgetown history book "The Families of Georgetown, South Australia". His name also appears on the Huddleston war memorial. He later lived in Gladstone, South Australia. Send me a e-mail felix.the.cat5@bigpond.com.au for more info
